Read what others had to say about our training equipment.
I have been involved in professional coaching of Rugby Union at all levels (club to international and amateur to professional)in the past 35 years. My career has taken me to nearly every rugby playing country in the world.
The game of Rugby has changed substantially over this period. However, the industry of Rugby Equipment remained largely unchanged. Teams still train with the basic tackle bag and rucking shields. The Development of the Dominant Contact range of equipment has brought a completely new dimension to how the game will be coached in the next 20 years. It is a tool that coaches of all levels and grades cannot ignore if they strive to gain the edge with their players, individually and collectively as a team.
Nelie Smith, Legendary former Springbok Coach and South African Director of Coaching
Having played professional rugby in both the NPC in New Zealand and Heineken Cup in Europe along with having coached at senior rugby in the Otago club competition, All Ireland League, and School’s first XV level in both New Zealand and Ireland ent on Dominant Contact equipment.
These two experiences as both a player and coach have given vast experience to comment on the effectiveness of the Dominant Contact Equipment on Senior and School boy – amateur and professional levels.
Much of the training I was doing involved a lot of contact of player on player as this was the best way at simulating the contact area. At the start of the 2008/09 season I was introduced to the ‘Dominant Contact’ range of equipment. Very quickly this equipment became one of my most valued resources. The fact that my players can now carry out different skills at the contact area without player on player contact has meant I have increased my repetition of practising these techniques which has led to an improvement.
- DC100 has been used from Under 12 up to senior to practice different clean out techniques. I have found the players body position and accuracy has been improved. Ruck recognition and the decision making at ruck has also been improved as we have been able to increase the repetition of work done.
- DC300 has made a massive impact on the speed at which our players tackle and get back to their feet. This piece of equipment probably led to the biggest improvement in a collective skill of the team.
As I have become more competent at using the equipment I have included both pieces in drills combining the both. Overall I have found the equipment has improved our technique at ruck which has led to a decrease in penalties given away for ‘off feet’ and has improved the speed at which we re-enter the game post tackle. I am confident you will find the equipment of great benefit to your team at which ever level you are coaching at.
Daniel Soper – Director of Rugby Ballyclare Grammar/Assistant Coach Ballynahinch RFC
When making contact or competing for the opposition ball, it is vital that our players do so with the correct technique. All too often though traditional coaching aids only serve to encourage young players to approach the ruck either with the wrong body angle or without the necessary aggression.
When using “Dominant Contact” it is glaringly obvious that it is like no other training aid available. Those using it are less likely to pick up injuries enabling a higher degree of aggression to be used while the various designs replicate superbly match situations and player body positions.
We have seen a huge improvement in the contact area amongst those boys (ages 8 to 18) that have had the opportunity to use “Dominant Contact.
